The Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association in its eagerness to promote the sport has crashed disastrously with two elevated schools Thurstan College and Sri Sumangala College ending up as chicken feed or lambs to the slaughter in the on-going Dialog inter school league championship.
It did not take long for the massacres to start as defending champions St. Peter’s College tore Thurstan to bits and pieces in a devastating 112-0 win while Isipathana College routed the other promoted team Sri Sumangala 50-3 in the very first week.
The slaughter continued on an unprecedented scale when in the following week Wesley College who are not anyone’s favourite to win the League title smashed Thurstan 70-3 followed by St. Joseph’s College hammering Thurstan 47-9 and Trinity College having their share of fun by subjugating Sri Sumangala 49-14.
S. Thomas’ College scored their highest points tally in the season when they routed Sri Sumangala 57-18 while it also became the turn of Vidyartha College to pile up 52 points against 20 by Thurstan.
Never in the history of schools rugby have there been lopsided results they way it is this season
Another massacre of an alarming proportion can be expected when Royal College take on Thurstan in their postponed match next week.
