DS Senanayake College hit back in style as they deflated an enterprizing Zahira College by 36 points to 19 in their annual rugby encounter for the RIT Alles Trophy at Maradana yesterday.
Zahira initially shocked DS Senanayake with two tries early in the match taking a 14-0 lead by the 15th minute of the first half.
But DS Senanayake, one of the most improved teams this season reversed the tide with a three-try burst as they used their forwards to power through the Zahira pack with second rower Kaveesha Jananjaya touching down followed by Number Eight Omika Bogahawatte crossing the line for their second try.
The robust Jananjaya got into the action once again as he scored his second try that gave DS Senanayake a 19-14 lead.
DS Senanayake went in for the breather with a half time score of 26-14 virtually securing the result.
In all DS Senanayake scored five tries and converted four of them to also add a penalty. In the dying moments of the game Zahira scored their third and last try that they were unable to convert after succeeding with conversions to their first two tries. Raveen Alexander refereed the match.
