Police yesterday arrested nine persons in connection with Election Law violations following eight complaints, police said.

When asked about election-related incidents ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary election on November 14, Elections Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayaka said the lead-up to the vote had been largely peaceful.

“We have not received any complaints of violence from September 25 to October 18, but there have been instances of Election Law violations,” he said.

The National Election Complaints Management Centre has received 145 complaints, while District Election Centres have logged 195 complaints so far.

Ratnayaka said that action was taken regarding 261 complaints and 82 were being addressed.
