BIA Customs seize illegal drugs

Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested a passenger who tried to bring illegal drugs into the country on Friday (October 18) around 11.30 pm.

Customs had found 10.197 kilograms of ice-type drug hidden in packets containing tea in the possession of the passenger who came on a Malaysian Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur Airport.

This passenger has tried to exit through the green channel which is for passengers who have nothing to declare to the Customs. The value of these drugs has been estimated at Rs. 250 million.

The passenger, a 35-year-old Sri Lankan, is a resident of Dematagoda. The passenger and the drug stock have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
