Golf prodigy Reshan Algama bounced back into contention at the Hambantota Regional Junior Open Golf Championship with a superb second-round score of 67 yesterday.
After a challenging first round of 80, Algama surged to the top of the leaderboard in the Boys’ Gold Division with a two-day total of 147 at the Shangri-La Hambantota course.
The tournament, organised by Sri Lanka Golf and sponsored by PRIMA Sunrise Bread, had Algama take a commanding five-stroke lead.
Trailing behind Algama, Royal Colombo Golf Club champion Yannik Kumara consistently posted scores of 76 for a total of 152, while first-round leader Jevahn Sathasivam slipped to third after carding a 77, also finishing with a 152 total.
In the Girls’ Gold/Silver Division, Kaya Daluwatte extended her dominance, shooting another superb round of 69 for a total of 138, leaving Sithara Lorance (188) and Keya Abeyratne (200) far behind.
In the Boys’ Silver Division, Kaveesha Sandaruwan led with a gross score of 189.
The Boys’ Bronze Division, played over 14 holes, had a close contest with Lavidu Premaratne (117) holding a one-stroke lead over Revaan Amarasinghe (118). Meanwhile, Vihara Herath (126) led the Girls’ Bronze Division by eight strokes, following rounds of 62 and 64.
In the Boys’ Copper Division, played over nine holes, Abiman Abeywardhana surged ahead with a superb round of 34, bringing his gross total to 74, five strokes clear of Yuvan Rathis Kanth (79) and Jaeden Sathasivam (82).
In the Girls’ Copper Division, Dulkini Kangara maintained a comfortable lead, with a gross total of 93.
