The choir of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Mount Lavinia presents ‘Hallelujah – Our God Reigns’ – A worship service of Nine Lessons and Carols, celebrating the Nativity of Jesus Christ, on Saturday (December 21) at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Hotel Road, Mount Lavinia at 6 p.m
Interspersed with the readings are popular carols for choir and congregation. The service traditionally begins with the singing of the processional hymn, ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ followed by a worship Carol medley ‘The Celebration of Christmas’, which the choir leads along with congregational participation as it grows in intensity throughout.
Along with other traditional carols are more recent Christmas musical works such as ‘Let all mortal flesh keep silence’, ‘Cradle Song (Away in a Manger)’, ‘And the song goes on’, ‘The Angel Gabriel’, and ‘Holy Silent Night’.
The theme is based on an arrangement by Mary McDonald titled ‘The Lord Almighty Reigns’. The service concludes with the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ and perennial recessional hymn ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’.
