The Government is committed to combatting Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) which has become a major health problem in Sri Lanka, said Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a workshop at Battaramulla yesterday (December 14) to launch a research study on the prevention and control of chronic kidney disease, jointly conducted by the Ministry of Health, National Kidney Disease Prevention and Research Unit, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and local scholars.
The workshop was organised by the Kidney Disease Prevention and Research Unit of the Ministry of Health and featured the launch of research on kidney disease conducted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sri Lankan scholars.
The findings of the research will be used to make recommendations on measures that can be studied and implemented by the Ministry of Health in the future. These recommendations will also be used as a basis for future planning to check the spread of kidney disease and strengthen treatment efforts.
Addressing the workshop, Minister Dr. Jayatissa said that the Government is working hard to combat chronic kidney disease, which is a major health problem in Sri Lanka, and that the workshops organised under this initiative will serve as a platform for scientific research and the exchange of new knowledge. A water purification unit with a capacity of 5,000 litres of water (per day) was donated by Director of the Centre for Environmental and Ecological Science Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Min Yang to Minister Dr. Jayatissa for suitable placement.
