The Acting Deputy Director General of the National Hospital (NHSL) in Colombo, Dr. S.P.A.L. Ranaweera said that alternative arrangements have been taken to continue x-ray services for patients, despite both machines at the Emergency Department of the NHSL being out of service.

He said this in response to media reports that radiological services had come to a complete standstill at the hospital.

Dr. Ranaweera said that both machines at the Emergency Department are outdated, and the last functioning unit became inoperative on Monday. He said that the manufacturers have already been contacted and repair work is under way.

The Ministry of Health and the Biomedical Engineering Division have been informed and are assisting in the matter.
