The sixth anniversary commemoration of the Easter Sunday attacks will begin tomorrow (21) at 8.30 am at St. Anthony’s Church, Kochchikade, Colombo, under the patronage of Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. Religious leaders, Ambassadors and families of the victims will participate.
The procession will begin at 7.00 am from St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena and proceed to St. Anthony’s church, Kochchikade by 8.45 am. Bells will be rung at all religious places and two-minutes silence will be observed.
Another service will be held at 8.15 a.m. tomorrow at St. Sebastian’s church in Katuwapitiya, led by Bishops Maxwell Silva and J.D. Anthony. This church too came under attack.
A ceremony to present houses to 10 victim families will be held in Katuwapitiya at 4.30 pm tomorrow under the patronage of the Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and Urban Development and Housing Minister Anura Karunathilaka. The book ‘Heroes Who Sacrificed the Blood of the Easter Sacrifice’, compiled by journalist Sureka Nilmini Ilankoon based on the experiences of the victims’ families, will also be launched.
A service will be held at 5.30 p.m. after the Archbishop announces that the Vatican recognises the victims of the attacks as “Witnesses of faith”.
