Sri Lanka’s youth athletic squad finished with one gold, three silver and four bronze medals (total 8) at the Asian Youth Athletic Championship held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia that concluded on Friday.
This is considered to be the most ever medals won by Sri Lanka squad at an Asian Under-18 athletic championship.
The only gold medal was won by Tharushi Abisheka of Wickremabahu Central, Gampola in the 800 metres event for girls. Silver medals were won by the Kilki Nehara of Sri Sumangala BV in the triple jump having cleared 12.35 metres, Nethya Sampath of Maris Stella, Thimbirigaskatuwa in the high jump event and Dhananjana Fernando of Lyceum, Wattala in the 100m.
The bronze medals were won by Dilki Nehara of Sri Sumangala in the triple jump, Nethya Sampath of Maris Stella Thimbirigaskatuwa in the high jump, Shavindu Awishka of Dhammissara NS, Nattandiya in the 800m event and Lahiru Achintha of St. Aloysius College, Ratnapura in the 1500m event.
