During the holiday month of April some of the Tourists in Sri Lanka were privileged to a more festive time with the locals celebrating the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in true Avurudu style across Sri Lanka on 14th April and even after with the festival events rolling on for almost two weeks!.

Our photographer Shan Rambukwella captured these fun moments with a huge number of Tourists joining in with the locals at the Mirisse beach on the day of the New Year to enjoy the Avurudu celebrated in true Sri Lankan style with a vibrant daytime Avurudu festival featuring traditional Sri Lankan New Year games, cultural performances, drumming, fun beach activities, and colorful celebrations by the sea.

A lively fusion of local tradition and tropical energy at Mirissa Beach was witnessed by many Tourists around who gathered to record the events that generated a lot of fun and enjoyment to many. They filmed the festivities and shared the fun moments with their loved ones overseas that were posted on various social media platforms. This became a spontaneous promotional campaign that augured well for the country- a splash of foreign and local energy at the Mirissa Beach with the local traditions seen at its best.
