Asian International School (AIS) has once again displayed their sports excellence, this time in football, by winning the Plate Championship at the RAISE Inter-Schools Futsal Tournament 2025 held at Thurstan Grounds.
This victory marks a milestone for AIS, known for dominating swimming, rowing, golf, athletics and many more at national and international levels, as they clinched their first major football trophy.
The senior football team triumphed in a thrilling final, defeating Colombo International School 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
“We are extremely proud of our football team,” said AIS Principal Harshana Perera. “This victory showcases talent that our students continue to put into all sports. It’s proof of our school’s commitment to developing well-rounded athletes.”
In a nerve-wracking final, the AIS Team secured their win with penalty goals from Yusuf Razmi, Yusuf Rizmeer, Zaid Mabuthoon and Daniel Bibile.
Yusuf Rizmeer was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performance. Nihara Bagoos, Head of Sports at AIS, expressed her excitement, saying, “This is just the beginning for AIS football. We are committed to nurturing talent in all disciplines and this win proves that our football program is evolving and will continue to grow.”

Earlier in the competition, AIS made it to the final by defeating the British School of Colombo 3-2 in a closely contested semi-final. Yusuf Razmi scored twice while Yusuf Rizmeer added another goal to secure their place in the final.
The rest of the squad included Ayyash Shafraz, Ramika Weerasekara, Diman Kalpage, Menuka Tennakoon and Luqman Abdullah, with all playing crucial roles in the team’s success.
