The Leo Club of SLIIT concluded Phase 3 of Project Haritha Dharani on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the historic Wilgamuwa river in Hettipola, Matale District. This environmental initiative focused on restoring the ecosystem while promoting sustainable practices among youth Leos.

SLIITLeos departed from SLIIT at 1:00 AM and arrived at the project site by 8:00 AM, ready to take on a day of dedicated service. Activities included the removal of invasive Japan Jabara plants that threaten the native ecosystem, planting of carefully selected indigenous tree species, and a thorough cleanup of the river’s surroundings.

The project was not just a service effort, but an educational experience that connected young minds with the importance of ecological balance and heritage conservation.

A project coordinator said, “When we restore nature, we don’t just heal the land—we heal ourselves. This project is a step towards reviving our roots and securing a greener future.”
