The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is celebrated in April. The New Year festival is celebrated by Sinhala and Hindu people. This festival is celebrated very happily and traditionally.

They clean the houses and prepare sweetmeats before the New Year dawns. The  Sinhala and Tamil New Year is the biggest cultural celebration in Sri Lanka, that features a lot of rituals. Every Sinhala and Tamil family celebrates and enjoys this festival. They taste food at an auspicious time after lighting an oil lamp.

This festival is one of my favourite festivals. Because of that, we can taste delicious sweetmeats and take part in so many Avurudu games like pot breaking, pillow fighting, eating buns, and swinging. This is a very enjoyable, important and traditional festival.
