The Beach Rugby Carnival 2025 – the first-ever rugby event to be played at the Port City, Colombo and the first under lights at this iconic waterfront venue will be held on May 24, commencing at 3.00 p.m.
This historic tournament is organised by the Old Thomians Rugby Football Union (OTRFU) to mark the celebration of 70 years of rugby excellence at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
The event promises a vibrant fusion of sport and celebration with a tag rugby tournament taking centre stage on two especially laid-out beach pitches.
The games will be played under strict non-contact rules with no tackling allowed at any point. A try earns one point with no conversions involved.
The tournament format and rules were detailed by the OTRFU President Ashean Karthelis and the Tournament Director Dilroy Fernando during a media briefing held at the CR and FC in Colombo.
The event will feature 16 teams with the final team line-up set to be announced closer to the tournament following the draw.
With a total prize pool of Rs. 350,000 and trophies up for grabs the competition is open to enthusiastic former players and alumni – not current ‘A’ Division club players.
