Leaders of this country promised to turn the country into a modern state similar to Singapore today. Yet nothing of that sort is in sight even after 77 years of gaining Independence. The shanties cramped together with hardly space for residents to lead a decent life in Paliyagoda captured by our staff photographer Hirantha Gunathilake tells it all.
