Foreigners can participate in Vesak celebrations, and many do, particularly in countries with significant Buddhist populations like Sri Lanka, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian nations. Vesak is a globally recognized holiday commemorating the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing, and its universal message of compassion and peace attracts people of diverse backgrounds. Our photographer Shan Rambukwella captured this picture of a family on holiday stepping out to admire the vesak lanterns adorning the trees in front of Cinnamon Lakeside, as part of the hotel’s beautifully illuminated decorations to mark this thrice Blessed day.
