Indonesians reveal the “hidden Gem” they discovered to a wider audience

Indonesian media and travel agents share Sri Lankan experiences with their colleagues

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta, in collaboration with the SriLankan Airlines Office in Jakarta, hosted a Sri Lanka promotional event at the Embassy premises on 26 April 2025. The event was attended by several Indonesian reputed media personnel and travel agents. The purpose of the event was to create a platform to share the travel experiences of the Indonesians who were amongst the invited media and travel agents to Sri Lanka recently, by disseminating their stories and messages to a wider audience through also the ones who attended this event. Welcoming the gathering, Chargé d’Affaires (a.i.) Nilanthi K. Pelawaththage highlighted the measures taken by the Government of Sri Lanka to make it easier for tourists to travel to Sri Lanka which include the free tourist visa scheme, the direct SriLankan Airlines flights between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, and the simple, easily accessible ETA system.

During the event, representatives from Theravada Wanitha Indonesia (WANDANI), the Youth Buddhists Association (PATRIA), and food and lifestyle influencer Eric Eko Santoso shared their positive experiences of their visit to Sri Lanka. WANDANI has organized five consecutive travel groups to Sri Lanka and will send their sixth group, comprising 66 Indonesians, from May 10–18, 2025. A tour group organized by PATRIA visited Sri Lanka in February 2025.

Influencer Eric Eko Santoso visited Sri Lanka from April 5–10, 2025, supported by the Embassy, SriLankan Airlines, and Aitken Spence (Pvt) Ltd.

The happy and memorable travel experiences of those who visited Sri Lanka, shared through engaging PowerPoint and video presentations, inspired the others present; travel agents and Media present to promote Sri Lanka on a larger scale. Many presenters referred to Sri Lanka as a ‘Hidden Gem’. The media and travel agents had a productive exchange clearing their doubts during the Q & A session that followed. The event had concluded with the serving of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine.
