The British School in Colombo has introduced horse riding as a new extracurricular activity in the junior school with the aim of providing students with the opportunity to develop confidence, discipline and responsibility while learning essential horsemanship skills.

A group of six students from Years 4 to 6 successfully and safely completed the term, gaining hands-on experience in riding, grooming and stable management.

Under the guidance of trained instructors at the Ceylon Riding Club, students learned the fundamentals of mounting and dismounting, balance and posture, rein control, and basic riding techniques.

Beyond the technical skills, they also developed patience, empathy and a deep appreciation for these magnificent animals.

Safety has been a top priority throughout the term.

Following British Horse Society standards, all riders had access to proper equipment, trained handlers and a structured learning environment to make this experience both enjoyable and secure.
