53 teams vie for U-17 Cricket Tourney

The Under-17 Division Two Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament will start at the end of this month with the participation of 53 teams in nine groups.

This tournament will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and sponsored by Sri Lanka Cricket.

St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya (B) emerged champions and Maris Stella College Thimbirigaskatuwa were the runners-up last season.

The joint champions in the previous Division Three Tournament Methodist High School, Moratuwa and Sri Palee College, Horana have been promoted to the Division Two Tournament along with the last year semi-finalists Ranabima Royal College, Gannoruwa and Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala (B).

The first round matches (130 matches) will be played on a league basis in nine groups on or before June 22 and the best three teams will be selected from each group. 27 teams will qualify to the second round.

The second round will be played on a knock-out basis.

The teams

Group ‘A’: Vijayaba National School, Hungama, Sri Palee College, Horana, Royal College, Monaragala, Ananda Maithreya National School, St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela, Debarawewa National School.

Group ‘B’: Azhar College, Akurana, Ranabima Royal College, Gannoruwa, Trinity College (B), Sri Sumangala Central College, Wariyapola, Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala, Kegalu Vidyalaya.

Group ‘C’: Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa (B), Harischandra National School, Negombo, S. De S. Jayasinghe Central College, Dehiwala, S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia (B), Siri Piyarathana MMV, Padukka, St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya (B). Group ‘D’: Dudley Senanayake Central College, Tholangamuwa, Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala (B), Saranath National School, Kuliyapitiya, Nalanda Boys’ School, Minuwangoda, Ibbagamuwa Central College, Maliyadeva Model School, Kurunegala. Group ‘E’: P. De S. Kularathna College, Ambalangoda, Wadduwa Central College, St. Aloysius’ College, Ratnapura, Sri Sumangala College, Hikkaduwa, Karandeniya Central College, Gamini National School Bentota. Group ‘F’: Royal College, Panadura, St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa (B), Zahira College, Colombo, St. Benedict’s College Kotahena (B), Homagama MMV, Royal College, Colombo (B). Group ‘G’: Mahanama College, Panadura, Methodist High School Moratuwa, Carey College, St. Thomas’ College, Kotte, Lyceum, Nugegoda, Nalanda College, Colombo (B). Group ‘H’: St. John’s College, Panadura, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo (B), Thurstan College (B), President’s College, Kotte. Ananda Maha Vidyalaya, Kottawa, Ananda College, Colombo (B). Group ‘I’: Royal College, Polonnaruwa, St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, Skandavarodaya College, Jaffna, Jaffna Central College, Anuradhapura Central College.
