D. S. Senanayake College took a close first innings lead over their traditional rivals Mahanama College on the second day of the 19th Battle of the Golds Inter-School Big Match, which continued at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.

Mahanama scored 235 runs in 78 overs in their first innings on the opening day of the match after they had won the toss and elected to bat first.

Thaviru Perera scored 77 and Gimantha Dissanayake scored 56 and the pair added 137 for the ninth wicket. Shanal Binuksha claimed five wickets for 65 runs for D. S. Senanayake.

In reply, D. S. Senanayake scored 249 in 72.2 overs. Chanul Athale scored 73 and Chithun Baddage scored 48 with the pair adding 67 for the ninth wicket. Sithum Vihanga claimed four wickets for 67 runs for Mahanama.

In their second innings, Mahanama scored 93 for no loss with Dulneth Sigera scoring an unbeaten 50.
