Sri Lanka is rich with natural beauty and craftsmanship that had mesmerised travellers to the island nation for centuries. The British-built Hamilton Canal also commonly known as the Dutch Canal connecting Puttalam to Colombo is one such iconic site that could be turned into a successful commercial waterway. Sadly today the historic canal has lost its beauty and purpose being neglected for ages. Our staff photographer Chinthaka Kumarasinghe captured a stretch of the canal in Hendala depicting its pathetic state.
