OUSL hosts landmark workshop on sustainable public procurement

The Faculty of Management Studies of The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) successfully conducted a workshop on “Sustainable Public Procurement and Supply Chain Management” on April 27, 2025 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla. The event brought together a distinguished group of academics, industry experts, students, and professionals to engage in critical discussions on sustainable procurement practices and their growing relevance in today’s competitive business environment.

The main session, titled “The Power of Procurement: Insights into Sustainable Practices,” focused on the integration of sustainability into procurement and supply chain strategies, aiming to equip learners with relevant industry knowledge and hands-on insights. The workshop served as a dynamic platform for dialogue between academia and industry, fostering knowledge sharing and professional development.

The event was graced by Senior Professor P.M.C. Thilakarathne, Vice Chancellor of OUSL, as the Chief Guest, whose ongoing support was instrumental in the success of the event. Prof. Nalin Abeysekara, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, attended as the Guest of Honour and offered his valuable insights and encouragement.

A highlight of the workshop was the keynote address delivered by Kanchana Fernando, Director – Supply Chain at Nestlé Lanka Ltd., on the topic “Green Chain of Value: Navigating the New Era of Sustainable Procurement.” His session provided participants with practical and thought-provoking perspectives on sustainability in the supply chain sector.

Adding further depth to the workshop was a panel discussion featuring esteemed experts including:

* Anura Lokugamage, Procurement Specialist
* Christy Perera, National and International Procurement Advisor
* Samantha Upananda, Director General, Department of State Accounts
* Uditha Palliyaguru, General Manager and Head of Supply Chain, Hayleys Agriculture Holdings Ltd.

The panel discussion was moderated by I.G. Perera, who ensured a lively and insightful exchange of ideas.

The Department also extended special appreciation to Dr. Sanath Divakara, Vice President of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM), for his powerful contribution to the discussion.

The workshop was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Ishara, while Dr. Sujeevi Sapukotanage, Head of the Department of Marketing Management, provided essential leadership and strategic direction.

The Department also acknowledged the efforts of the academic and non-academic staff, along with administrative personnel, for their unwavering support in organizing the event.

In related news, the application deadline for the MSc. in Public Procurement and Supply Chain Management programme has been extended to May 25, 2025, due to high demand from prospective applicants.
