Spogomi is a Japanese game, created by combining “Sports” + “Gomi” (Gomi means trash in Japanese). The Spogomi World Cup is a game where competitors have to collect garbage within a given time in a designated area. It’s more than just a clean-up — it’s a fun and competitive challenge with a sustainable outcome.
This game is well-structured with rules, regulations, classification systems, and a scoring system.
In 2008, Mamitsuka Kenichi introduced this game to the world. His goal was to transform the boring concept of cleaning into an exciting and competitive game. Today, Spogomi is popular worldwide. It’s well-known in the UK, USA, India, Malaysia — and now it’s coming to Sri Lanka. This year, the ZeroPlastic national movement is acting as the official country organiser for the Spogomi World Cup. Now, you have the chance to represent Sri Lanka in the Spogomi World Cup. All you have to do is form a team of three people and compete in the provincial qualifier rounds. Whether you’re a student, an undergraduate, or an adult — regardless of your age — you can join the game. You’ll be competing within your province. The University of Peradeniya is bringing Spogomi to the Central Province at 9.00 a.m. today. It is a mission to save the Earth.
