The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) says it has received additional information about personnel at several State entities engaging in acts of bribery and corruption and would intensify their raids in the coming days.
CIABOC Director General Ranga Dissanayake said that following several complaints and tip-offs the Bribery Commission conducted a special raid at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) head office in Narahenpita on Friday, where the CIABOC officers found Rs. 4.1 million inside the office of the Deputy Commissioner of the Vehicle Transfer Unit. The three officials who were arrested at the site have been unable to provide an explanation for the sum of money in their possession.
Dissanayake told the media that according to the information they had collected, such sums are divided among the staff members involved in bribery and other scams.
Three persons, including a Deputy Commissioner of the Motor Traffic Department, were arrested during the special raid at the DMT. The three suspects were remanded until June 3.
