Mahanama edge DSS to clinch inaugural T20 encounter

Mahanama players celebrate their victory

Mahanama College edged out D. S Senanayake College by eight runs under the DLS method in the inaugural Battle of the Golds T20 cricket encounter played under lights at the CCC Grounds in Colombo.

Mahanama won the toss and elected to field first. However, the match was stopped twice due to rain interruptions in the D. S. Senanayake innings.

At the first stoppage D. S. Senanayake scored 39 runs for one wicket. Again the match was stopped due to rain after 7.1 overs with D. S. Senanayake scoring 40 runs for three wickets. The match restarted, reduced to 18 overs per side and D. S. Senanayake finished with 134 runs for six wickets.

Ranumitha Sehas scored 50 runs in 38 deliveries with three boundaries and a six. Ranumitha Sehas and Dilash Kumaranayake added 60 runs for the fourth wicket.

In addition, there were useful contributions from Malitha Perera (20) and Dilash Kumaranayake (17). Chamika Heenatigala and Dulnith Sigera claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Mahanama scored126 runs for six wickets in 16 overs when the match was halted due to rain. Sithum Vihanga scored an unbeaten 42 runs from just in 19 deliveries with three boundaries and three sixes. Openers Dulnith Sigera (28) and Sineth Veerarathne (28) added 54 runs for the first wicket. Randeesha Bandaranayake claimed two wickets for 29 runs.

Sithum Vihanga of Mahanama was named Player of the Match. Ranumitha Sehas of D. S. Senanayake was named as the Best Batter.

Chamika Heenatigala and Anuka Wijewardane both from Mahanama were selected as the Best Bowler and Best Fielder respectively.
