Multi-sectoral mechanism to protect minors to be set up

A multi-sectoral mechanism to protect children from abuse and all forms of violence is to be set up the Government.

A media briefing in this regard was held by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs on Friday (30) at the Government Information Department to brief the media and the public about the multi-sectoral mechanism. The meeting held under the patronage of the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savitri Paulraj, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Dr. Namal Sudarshana, Ministry Secretary, K.D.R. Olga, Additional Secretary, Nilmini Herath, Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority, Preethi Inoka Ranasinghe, Commissioner of the Department of Probation and Child Protection Services, Gayani Kaushalya Wijesinghe, Director of the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Developmen,t D.D.V. Rasadari and Ministry officials.

Positive feedback and suggestions have been sent by the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of National Integration on the Cabinet Memorandum regarding the setting up of this multi-sectoral mechanism.

The Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Affairs outlined the structure, role and process of this multi-sectoral mechanism, while the heads of the National Child Protection Authority and the Department of Probation and Child Protective Services outlined on how they will operate within this mechanism.
