Senior academic, popular lecturer and author, Prof. Attanayake M. Herath, who served as the Head of the Sinhala Studies Department at the University of Peradeniya, passed away on May 29.
He was 73 years old when he passed away while undergoing treatment at the Peradeniya Hospital. Born as the fourth of 10 children to Alice Nona Angulugahagamage and Bibile Herath Mudiyanselage Bandara, Prof. Attanayake became a maestro in the Sinhala language and literature, and was a celebrated lecturer in Sri Lanka and abroad.
He was also a popular author who penned several books. He retired in late 2018 and became a household name through the program Amadahara aired on a TV station. His remains will be cremated at the Kossinna Gelioya Crematorium today.
