A “National Tax Week” has been declared from June 2 (tomorrow) to increase awareness on tax matters and to widen the tax base.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will preside at the launch of this program at the Presidential Secretariat.
The Tax Week on the theme “Strength through taxes” is aimed at raising public awareness on the benefits of paying taxes on time and also on obtaining the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). The TIN is already required to register a vehicle under an individual’s name and will also be required to open certain bank accounts.
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD), the Motor Traffic Department (MTD), Sri Lanka Customs and the Excise Departments have organised various programs to apprise the public of various taxes and duties during the Tax Week.
