Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) extended their deepest sympathies on the passing of Gwen Herat, the founding president of the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Association.

The late Herat was a pioneering figure and a pillar of strength in the development of Women’s cricket in Sri Lanka. “On behalf of the entire cricketing fraternity, we convey our heartfelt condolences to her family, relatives and friends during this time of grief.”

“Her contributions to the sport will be remembered with profound gratitude and respect.”

A true cricket visionary, the late Gwen Herat received a Lifetime Achievement Award from SLC for her dedication to Women’s cricket in Sri Lanka at the Under-19 Schools Cricket Awards in October 2023.

Gwen Heart dedicated her lifetime to promoting Women’s cricket in Sri Lanka and to a certain degree achieved her objectives like forming the SLWCA in 1996.

The SLWCA gave voice, structure and hope to female cricketers in the country. Her decade-long leadership transformed the landscape of Sri Lankan Women’s cricket.
