Today is another special day for all of us. It is a day to remember, honour and celebrate that special gentleman in our lives, our thatha, appachi, papa, our one and only dad. Just like your mother, our fathers do so much for us, that it’s rather silly to have one day to celebrate what a great person he is. We should love and honour our fathers every day! But a special day gives us an opportunity to spoil our fathers by doing something extra nice for them. Fathers are real-life superheroes. They may not wear capes and fly around, but they protect, guide and support us through everything we do.

Most dads work hard every day, they do that to provide you with a comfortable life, give you a good education, hoping one day you will become a happy and responsible adult. Our fathers teache us how to ride bikes, fix our toys, cheer for us at sports matches, helps us with our homework, makes sure you get to school on time, perhaps even take a bus or trishaw everyday to see you are safely dropped at school.

They also entertain us by telling stories of what it was like to be a youngster back in the good “old” days.

Sometimes fathers can also get strict, they may scold us when we do something wrong, and put up so many rules for us—but know that it’s all done out of love and care to protect us from harm and ensure we are safe.

Fathers come in many forms. Some are quiet and gentle, while others are funny and playful. What makes a father special isn’t how big or strong he is—its how much love he gives and how he always looks after us.

Some children are raised by grandfathers, uncles, older brothers, or even family friends who step in and show us the same care and kindness a father would. Father’s Day is a chance to thank all the father figures in our lives—anyone who supports us, teaches us, and loves us like a father would.

So this Father’s Day, it’s up to you to make your thatha feel extra special!

• You can make a handmade card or drawing.

• Bake him his favourite cake or cookie.

• Spend the day doing something he loves—like playing cricket or watching a movie together.

• Most importantly say “Thank you” for being your father, and give him a big warm smile and hug him tight.

Even if your dad is far away or no longer with you, you can still honour him by remembering his kindness and doing something loving in his name.

So, let’s make Father’s Day a day full of love, laughter and gratitude for the superheroes we call our dads. A father’s love is boundless and deep like the ocean so let’s not take it for granted.

A Happy Father’s Day to you all.

See you next week!
