Sri Lanka’s school sports landscape is set to witness a groundbreaking moment with the inaugural Clash of the Crowns, a 30-over cricket encounter between Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala and Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle, which will be played on June 21 at the Welagedara Cricket Stadium in Kurunegala.

Organized to celebrate sporting excellence, girl empowerment and school pride, the Clash of the Crowns promises to be a vibrant and competitive spectacle.

In a major boost to the event’s prestige, Janatha Automobiles (Private) Limited has joined as the platinum sponsor, reaffirming their commitment to youth development and the advancement of Women’s sports in Sri Lanka.

The match will be telecast live on Event TV at PEO TV and streamed globally via YouTube Live and Facebook Live, bringing the excitement to thousands of viewers across the country and beyond.

Speaking about the encounter, Nirodha Abeywickrama, Principal of Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya said: “This event marks a new chapter for Girls’ cricket in Sri Lanka.

We are proud to provide a national platform for young talent to shine and we are deeply grateful to Janatha Automobiles for their unwavering support.”

“This will be more than just a game and it’s a celebration of courage, commitment and character. All cricket lovers and school sports enthusiasts are invited to be a part of this historic occasion,” said Abeywickrama.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya said: “It is with immense pride and honour that I extend my heartfelt blessings as we unite to celebrate Clash of the Crown – a symbol of sporting excellence and mutual respect between both Girls’ Colleges.

“And it is indeed an honour and pleasure to take part in this event as a team that has proudly participated in the very first Girls’ leather ball cricket match played in Sri Lanka.
