In celebration of World Environment Day, Cargills Food and Beverage Limited, with its brands Kist and Knuckles, has taken another step towards environmental protection with the installation of its second Ocean Strainer in Wanathamulla.

This initiative, implemented in collaboration with the MAS Foundation for Change, aligns with this year’s global theme “End Plastic Pollution.”

The Ocean Strainer is a specially designed structure placed across waterways to trap floating waste, including plastic and other non-biodegradable materials, before it reaches the ocean.

Following the success of the first Ocean Strainer launched in Boralesgamuwa, this second installation is expected to deliver similar environmental benefits by reducing pollution at its source and helping protect nearby ecosystems.

Frequent cleaning and maintenance of the strainer is carried out to ensure continued effectiveness and to maximise its positive environmental impact. The initiative is further supported by the active involvement of the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC) and local Municipal Councils.

Cargills Food and Beverage Limited Managing Director, Arjuna Kumarasinghe said, “This innovative solution effectively addresses ocean plastic pollution by capturing waste plastic before it reaches the ocean. We are proud to advance this initiative with the launch of the second Ocean Strainer and remain committed to expanding its reach.”
