Do you love to hum to your favourite tune or bang on the table like it’s a drum? That could mean there could already be a little musician living within you waiting for an opportunity to spring itself into action. Singing and playing instruments are two of the most joyful ways of expressing yourself and having fun.
Singing is something almost everyone can do, and you don’t need that perfect voice for it either. It doesn’t matter if you’re loud or quiet, high or low, on stage or in the shower—your voice is your instrument. Singing can help us feel happy, calm, excited, or brave; it can also be a great way to heal yourself when you are feeling sad or angry. Sometimes even though we love music we might think we may not have a good voice and we can feel shy of singing in front of others, while that’s a perfectly natural feeling, if singing is something you love what other people think of your voice shouldn’t matter to you. You can always sing to yourself , to your pets or toys. They will never judge you, that’s for sure.
Singing with others, like in a choir or with friends, can be even more fun. You learn how to listen, take turns, and blend your voice like pieces of a puzzle coming together, while singing can also help you breathe better and speak more clearly. While singing is something we can all do since we have a voice box, what about learning an instrument, have you ever thought about that? Now that’s a real challenge, but a fun one at that.
Musical instruments come in all shapes and sounds such as guitars, violins, flute, drums, pianos, cellos, and trumpets. Each one has its own voice. Some are loud, some are soft, some go ding, others go boom. When you learn to play an instrument, you learn how to turn those sounds into music. Playing an instrument is like learning a secret code. At first, it might feel tricky, but with practise, your fingers, ears, and heart start working together. You don’t just play notes—you will be able to tell stories with sounds.
Did you know that learning music helps your brain grow stronger? Learning something new is great for your brain health and it improves memory, listening skills, and even mathematics. Singing and playing instruments also help you feel more confident and calm. Music is also a universal language. Have you ever tapped along or enjoyed a song from another language which you know nothing about? That’s the power of music; it brings people together regardless of what language you speak or beliefs you may have.
Music can be healing and fun and as they say, all the best things in life are free, this certainly rings true of music. So let its power bring joy into your life and make you a happy and carefree child, because you have everything you need within you. All you need is your voice, your ears, and your love for sound. So sing out loud, strum that guitar, tap those keys, and let the magic of music transport you into a wonderful world. That world is a better place with music in it that’s for sure!
See you next week,
