Iran is committed to support Sri Lanka with trade despite the current crisis in the Middle East, Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkhosh told Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath when both met on Thursday to discuss the present situation in the Middle East.
Sri Lanka and Iran have been good friends. Iran is ready to strengthen trade relations with Sri Lanka amid the present situation between Iran and Israel,” the Ambassador said.
The Iranian Ambassador said trade relations with Sri Lanka particularly on importing tea will be strengthened further.
The conflict between Iran and its arch rival Israel flared up on June 14 and continued for 12 days prior to a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump last week.
Dr. Delkhosh said that Iran is committed to strengthen economic ties with Sri Lanka despite regional instability.
Trade between Sri Lanka and Iran has been on steady ground despite the many challenges posed by US and Western sanctions.
