There was much excitement when Oscar and Emmy Award-winning British actor Jeremy Irons arrived in Sri Lanka last week to star in the film Cage Bird.
Cage Bird, is an internationally-backed film directed by veteran Sri Lankan filmmaker Chandran Rutnam. We were reliably informed that this visit of Jeremy Irons happens to be his first and by a Hollywood A-list actor of Irons’ calibre for a film production in over 12 years.
Irons, globally known for his performances in The Lion King, Reversal of Fortune, and The Borgias, is expected to be here till the end of filming. The production of Cage Bird is expected to significantly enhance Sri Lanka’s profile as a top film location.
There have been several Indian film producers arriving often in the country the last 6 months who have made Sri Lanka their main location for the scheduled films.
Having internationally acclaimed actors such as Irons will give a boost to the promotions that are been designed to attract global attention to our country’s mesmerizing sights and to woo potential film makers.
