For the first time in the history of American Airlines which is the world’s second-largest airline with a fleet of nearly 1,000 aircrafts, two Sri Lankan-born pilots shared the cockpit of its commercial flight.
Serving as Captain and First Officer, this moment marked a first in U.S. aviation history, when two Lankans were in complete control of an American Airlines plane.
Lalith Perera, an old boy of Dharmaraja College in Kandy and Pierre Le Bond, an alumni of St. Joseph’s College, showed the world Sri Lankan pilots are second to none.
