Unbeaten Wesley College underlined their title hopes with a clinical 23 points (one goal, two tries and two penalties) to 5 points (one try) victory over defending champions St. Peter’s College in their Dialog Schools ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament clash played at Havelock Park yesterday. Wesley led 8-0 at the breather and never looked back as they kept their unbeaten run alive.

Wesley’s full back Abdul Haadhi opened the scoring with a penalty in the 11th minute to give his side an early 3-0 lead.

Wesley continued to attack with confidence and were rewarded in the 20th minute when full back Haadhi scored a fine unconverted try, stretching the lead to 8-0.

After the resumption, Wesley extended their lead to 11-0 with another easy penalty from Haadhi in the 37th minute. Lock forward Pavan Thiranagama then powered over the line for a converted try in the 45th minute, pushing the score to 18-0.

In the 49th minute, Thiranagama crossed the line again. After a TMO review, the try was awarded and Haadhi slotted the conversion without error to make it 23-0.

The Peterites finally broke through in the dying stages with a consolation try off a driving maul under the posts through their winger. The conversion was missed, leaving the final score at 23-5.

Referee: Kelum Sandaruwan.
