Supporting Health Initiatives Through a Blood Donation Camp
A key pillar of WIA’s corporate social responsibility is promoting the health and safety of the wider community. We recently partneredwith the University of Jaffna to host a blood donation camp at their Faculty of Engineering—where students, staff, and community members came together in an inspiring show of solidarity.
The initiative, designed to address critical blood supply shortages in the Northern Province, saw enthusiastic participation from 130 donors comprising students, faculty members, and local residents.The campaign achieved dual objectives: bolstering the National Blood Transfusion Service’s reserves while promoting awareness about the life-saving impact of regular donations.
It was a powerful example of how small actions can lead to big impacts, and we are proud to have contributed to this life-saving cause.
Education Against the Odds: Helping Remove Barriers Together
Every child deserves access to quality education, yet for many students in underserved communities face challenges in providing the basic infrastructure needed for learning. For students at Mo Saraswathy Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Monaragala, learning was an uphill battle, working in incomplete classrooms with lack of facilities and limited road access.
Monaragala as a rural district faces some of the lowest literacy rates in the country. Withsocioeconomic challenges, high dropout rates continue to hinder educational progress in the region.
With the objective of improving these conditions, WIA Systems stepped in to help construct new classrooms, providing a stable and conducive learning environment. This initiative marked a pivotal milestone: the school’s upgrade to a Maha Vidyalaya, enabling it to offer Advanced Level classes for the first time.
For these young minds, a classroom is more than four walls, it’s a foundation for growth, empowerment and hope. At WIA, we’re proud to support their journey, knowing that every brick laid is a step toward a brighter, more equitable future.
Protecting Our Planet: WIA Joins Forces for a Beach Cleanup
WIA’s commitment to preserving the environment is another cornerstone of our CSR initiatives. WIA teamed up with Pearl Protectors for a beach cleanup at Dehiwala Beach, where our volunteers removed nearly 100kg of waste from the shoreline. Plastic pollution threatens marine ecosystems, endangering wildlife and coastal communities. By taking direct action, we’re not just cleaning beaches—we’re safeguarding biodiversity and inspiring others to join the fight for a greener, cleaner Sri Lanka.
