Sri Lanka’s top junior squash player, Matheesha Wijesekara of Royal College, Colombo, is preparing to make his mark on the world squash court.

The 17-year-old star has been selected to represent the country at the prestigious World Junior Squash Championship, to be held in Cairo, Egypt, from July 18.

This will be the first time in two years that a Sri Lankan player will feature in this world event. The last to do so was Nevindu Lakman in 2022, when the tournament took place in Australia.

Matheesha has enjoyed a brilliant season so far. Just a few weeks ago, he defended his Under-19 title at the Yeti Open Squash Championship in Ratmalana, organised by Sri Lanka Squash. It was his sixth consecutive title in this age group, firmly proving that he is the undisputed king of junior squash in the country.
