Hutch presented 100 electric bicycles to rural schoolchildren at the Bandaranayake Model Primary College and Zahira College, in the Anuradhapura district recently to improve student mobility in underserved communities.
The initiative marks the implementation phase of a joint effort between Hutch and the Ministry of Education. The project is designed to directly address the transportation challenges faced by students in remote areas, helping them travel to and from school more safely and efficiently. By reducing the daily burden of long-distance travel, Hutch aims to support consistent school attendance and academic continuity, particularly in geographically isolated regions of the country.
Senior representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Hutch management team, along with school principals, teachers, and members of the local community were present.
General Manager, Corporate Affairs of Hutch Sri Lanka, Mangala Bandara said, “This initiative is a reflection of our deep commitment to enabling equal opportunities for all students, regardless of where they live.” This contribution is part of Hutch’s broader CSR vision that places a strong emphasis on education, environmental sustainability, and community upliftment. By integrating green mobility into rural education infrastructure, Hutch continues to demonstrate its commitment to driving transformative change beyond the boundaries of its core business, building a more connected and empowered Sri Lanka.
