Yoga, a globally recognised method for personal development, continues to expand its reach, with its profound techniques embraced by nations worldwide to foster growth. The mission of Akshar Yoga, is to disseminate the message of health, peace, and happiness through yoga, uniting people from all walks of life and enlightening them about its immense importance and impact.
This year’s International Yoga Day, held on June 21, witnessed unprecedented global participation under the inspiring theme of “One Earth, One Health.” Among the diverse participants, including defence forces, schoolchildren, educational institutions, corporations, medical professionals, and spiritual communities, was the sole Sri Lankan representative, Himalayan Yogini Kum, Vidya Jeyarajan.
Jeyarajan, a trained and certified Advanced Level yoga instructor from Akshar Yoga Kendraa, described her experience as “wonderful,” highlighting her ability to “connect with many beautiful souls.” She found her time and training at Akshar Yoga to be “enriching and divine,” gaining invaluable knowledge and experience.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was unique and awe-inspiring,” she added. The pinnacle of the event for her was meeting her guru and receiving his blessings. His powerful message to her was to practise yoga herself to uplift her energy to the next level and reach the highest goal, and simultaneously to spread the art of yoga and spirituality to the nation.
Reflecting on her incredible accomplishments, Jeyarajan said, “Winning 12 Guinness World Records with the Akshar Yoga family is an incredibly proud and monumental achievement.” She feels truly blessed and honoured to be a part of Akshar Yoga. “This accomplishment speaks volumes about our dedication and the strength of our collective spirit. This isn’t just a moment; it’s a milestone etched in the heart of my pride,” she said.
She expressed immense gratitude for the outpouring of well wishes, emphasizing that “This success belongs to the entire Akshar Yoga Kendra team, and I’m so proud to be one of the students who contributed to it.” She also highlighted her profound privilege in being the sole representative from Sri Lanka in this record-setting endeavour, extending thanks for celebrating this shared milestone.
Akshar Yoga Kendraa has etched its name in history by achieving an unprecedented feat: 12 Guinness World Records in a single day. This remarkable accomplishment marks a significant milestone in the 70-year history of Guinness World Records, showcasing a level of dedication and coordination never seen from an organisation in one event.
Under the guidance of Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar Ji, Akshar Yoga Kendraa, with the participation of over 2,000 persons in Bengaluru, India, successfully broke six previous World Records and established six new World Records.
Akshar Yoga Kendraa set official Guinness World Records for the first time in the following Yogasanas:
Gracious Pose (Bhadrasana): Record Achieved – 550 participants
Downward-Facing Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Shvanasana): Record Achieved – 864 participants
Locust Pose (Salabhasana): Record achieved – 539 participants
Eagle Pose (Garudasana): Record achieved – 522 participants
Double Toe Hold Pose (Ubhaya Padangustasana): Record achieved – 461 participants
Pistol Squat Pose (Eka Pada Padangustasana): Record achieved – 514 participants
Akshar Yoga Kendraa also surpassed existing Guinness World Records with impressive participation numbers.
This monumental event, held on June 21, at Gate No. 9, Princess Shrine, Palace Grounds, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, highlighted the power of collective effort and the global reach of yoga.
