Narratives of Muslim Women is a two-day exhibition that brings together the work of Muslim artists exploring the gendered experiences of Sri Lankan Muslim women through visual and textual storytelling.

The exhibition will be held on July 16 and 17 from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm at the Muslim Ladies’ Study Circle Auditorium, Maradana.

Narratives of Muslim Women delves into the weight of Muslim women and girls’ lived experiences—the burdens carried, the resilience forged, the struggles endured, and the ways they build identities beyond what is imposed. The exhibition reflects on the place of women in Islam, acknowledging both their historic influence and the contemporary challenges they face. At its core, Narratives of Muslim Women offer a safe and open space for Muslim women to reclaim and redefine their identities beyond inherited or assigned roles.

Visitors are invited to engage with powerful images and stories, and reflect on the evolving realities of Muslim women’s lives today. The exhibition is organised by Everystory Sri Lanka and funded by the Baturu International Cultural Festival. Admission: Free and open to all
