The fifth annual Inter-Schools rugby encounter between the traditional rivals D. S. Senanayake College and Zahira College will be played on July 19 at Maradana. The kick-off is at 4.15 p.m.
This match will be played for the R. I. T. Alles Memorial Trophy. The late R. I. T. Alles was the founder and the former Principal of D. S. Senanayake College.
D. S. Senanayake are the current holders of the R. I. T. Alles Memorial Trophy having defeated Zahira in last year’s fixture.
However, Zahira had the honour of winning the inaugural match between the two schools before D. S. Senanayake regained the trophy in the following year.
In the President’s Trophy Knock-Out Tournament, Zahira reached the semi-finals before losing to Trinity College (12-29) while D. S. Senanayake went down to Royal (24-41) in the quarter-finals.
In the League Tournament, Zahira defeated Dharmaraja (56-19) and Mahanama (58-17) before losing to S. Thomas’ (19-43), Kingswood (18-27) and Isipathana (27-38).
Meanwhile, D. S. Senanayake had the better of St. Anthony’s (26-19), Ananda (22-18), Science College (36-29) before losing to Wesley (10-29) and St. Peter’s (17-24) respectively.
