The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Ltd (AASL) has issued a strict warning against flying kites near international airports, citing threats to aircraft and passenger safety.
AASL stated that flying any object above 300 feet within a five-kilometre radius of an international airport is banned and considered a punishable offence. This rule applies to areas within five kilometres of all five international airports in Sri Lanka. The authorities said that the warning has been issued highlighting the danger caused to flight operations and the threat to flights and passengers.
The AASL calls upon the public to follow these regulations to avoid legal consequences and ensure the safety of all air travellers. The public is also asked to educate children on the danger of flying kites near airports.
