After a long 14-year wait, Asian International School (AIS) returned to the top tier of school tennis with a spectacular performance at the Inter-International Schools Tennis Championship, hosted by AIS at the Queen’s Club Courts in Colombo.

The tournament was successfully conducted by AIS Head of Sports Nihara Bagoos, under the expert guidance and support of Principal Harshana Perera.

AIS proved their mettle as the Boys’ team lifted the championship trophy while the Girls’ team claimed a hard-fought third place, making this a landmark achievement for the host school in a tournament that brought together all top international schools from across Sri Lanka.

In a pulsating final clash in the Under-20 Boys’ Division, AIS edged out the tournament favourites Gateway College, Colombo, sealing a dramatic and emotional victory.

Colombo International School took third place, followed by Lyceum and Stafford International School in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The AIS boys were led by Ramika Wirasekara and Shrenik Kagoo, the Co-Captains of a well-balanced and focused squad. Their teammates Raveesh Herath, Eran Abeyewardene, Methun Wijendra, Ramon Sritharan, Murad Mubarak, Minuka Alexander and Miqdad Mubarak all played key roles in steering AIS to the top.

In the Under-20 Girls’ Division, with just two players in the squad, Kimalka Perera and Nethumi Wijendra punched above their weight to secure a bronze medal for AIS. The Girls’ podium was topped by Colombo International School, with Lyceum securing silver and Gateway College, Colombo settling for fourth place.

This victory not only ended a 14-year title drought for AIS but also sent a clear message to the tennis fraternity that the school is once again a formidable force in the sport.

The tournament highlighted AIS’s growing investment, strong coaching culture, and deep-rooted passion for tennis.
