K. Shanmugashwaran and H. M. W. G. W. M. Herath, both from the Central Province, won the Men’s and Women’s marathon gold medal at the 49th National Sports Festival (NSF) held at Hikkaduwa yesterday.
Shanmugashwaran finished the Men’s marathon with a time of two hours, 24 minutes and 43 seconds. E. A. C. Chandana (Uva Province) took the silver medal with a time of two hours, 25 minutes and 18 seconds while T. W. Rathnapala (Eastern Province) won the bronze medal in two hours, 30 minutes and 46 seconds.
Meanwhile, Herath won the Women’s marathon gold medal with a time of two hours, 53 minutes and 42 seconds.
Silver medallist H. M. C. S. Herath (Central Province) finished the event in three hours, and 21 seconds while Nimesha Nidarshani (Uva Province) won the bronze medal in three hours, two minutes and 32 seconds.

Men’s marathon: Gold medal – K. Shanmugashwaran (Central Province) 2:24.43s. Silver medal – E. A. C. Chandana (Uva Province) 2:25.18s. Bronze medal – T. W. Rathnapala (Eastern Province) 2:30.46s.
Women’s marathon: Gold medal – H. M. W. G. W. M. Herath (Central Province) 2:53.42s. Silver medal – H. M. C. S. Herath (Central Province) 3:00.21s. Bronze medal – Nimesha Nidarshani (Uva Province) 3:02.32s.
