Located inside the ICC Techno Hub in Thalahena, Malabe, the newest outlet of Island Tea Co. and Ceylon Coffee Club is redefining what it means to be a neighbourhood café. Head of Operations, Dhanuka Winter to spoke on what makes this outlet stand out.

Q: What was the vision behind setting up this space in Malabe?

A: Our goal was to create an inclusive and functional space — something that reflects the evolving lifestyle of today’s café-goer. We understood that people no longer come to cafés only to sip a cup of tea or coffee; they come to work, study, meet, and unwind.

That’s why the Malabe outlet has purpose-built working zones with charging stations and comfortable seating, designed to support long hours.

Q: The drink menu is extensive. Tell us what sets your beverages apart.

A: We offer over 100 beverages, and everything begins with authenticity. Our teas are 100% pure Ceylon loose-leaf, directly sourced from local tea estates.

Q: What about the food? What can customers expect?

A: The food is crafted with purpose. We serve generous portions made with quality ingredients.

Q: What vibe are you hoping to create for people who walk in?

A: Comfort and clarity. Whether you’re working on a university paper, meeting a client, catching up with a friend, or enjoying a solo break, we want you to feel welcomed, supported, and at ease.

We’ve also seen a growing number of creators using the space for photo shoots, video shoots, interviews, and content creation. It’s something we fully welcome and encourage.

Q: Are there any special offers for customers?

A: Absolutely. We run student discounts with flat total bill reductions for those from universities and educational institutes around Malabe. There are also weekend deals for groups, couples, and families, as well as corporate coffee/tea meeting packs.
