Marking a significant milestone, the Japan Sri Lanka Technical & Cultural Association (JASTECA) proudly celebrated the 25th edition of its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative the “Madam Ogawa Scholarship” with a special ceremony held at theSirisumana Maha Vidyalaya, Vavuniya.

This year, 25 deserving students were selected to receive financial support to pursue their GCE Advanced Level (A/L) studies. Each student will be granted a monthly allowance of Rs. 5,000, which is deposited into a specially opened individual bank account to ensure transparency and direct benefit.

The selection process, carried out in close collaboration with the Zonal Education Director of Vavuniya, followed a rigorous and fair approach, identifying students who demonstrate both academic promise and financial need.

The commemorative event, held on 20 July 2025, was attended by officials from the Zonal Education Office, the Principal and staff of the school, members of the JASTECA Executive Committee (EXCO), parents, donors and well-wishers – all united by a shared belief in the power of education to transform lives. Speaking at the event, a JASTECA President Mr Mangala Samarajeewa reflected:

“Celebrating the 25th year of the Madam Ogawa Scholarship is a proud moment for all of us. This programme is a testament to our enduring commitment to education and social responsibility in Sri Lanka.”

The initiative is made possible through the generous support of individual donors and sponsorsas well as the dedicated fund established by Madam Ogawa, a long-standing friend of Sri Lanka whose contributions have been solely directed toward educational development in the country.

Over the past 25 years, the Madam Ogawa Scholarship has impacted hundreds of students across Sri Lanka, empowering them to continue their education and reach their full potential.
