“Democracy and National Unity Day” was observed on July 15 by the Turkiye Embassy in Colombo to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the failed military coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016.
At the invitation of the Turkish Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Semih Lutfu Turgut, a group of 50 top-ranked students from the Hameed Al Husseiniya National School Colombo 13, and their Principal M.R.M. Riski, and their English teachers took part in the celebrations. In a talk, the Turkiye Ambassador gave a graphic account of the significance of the day and events related to the failed military coup.
